Table Topics
Table Topics is an impromptu speaking exercise in Toastmasters meetings designed to help members think and speak on their feet.
The Table Topics Master presents a series of short, engaging questions or prompts, and randomly selects participants to respond.
Each speaker aims to speak for 60 seconds (between 50 seconds and 70 seconds) to deliver a spontaneous mini-speech.
The goal is to structure a quick response with a clear opening, body, and conclusion. This exercise helps develop confidence, quick thinking, and the ability to articulate ideas under pressure.
The topics can range from light-hearted to thought-provoking, such as *“If you could have dinner with any historical figure, who would it be and why?”* or *“What is the best advice you’ve ever received?”*
While participation is encouraged, guests are not required to speak. Evaluators provide constructive feedback, highlighting strengths and areas for improvement.
